Taking the stage with Journey!

Posted: 04:15 PM ET

eric on stage with journey

in the picture above: Eric can't believe he's on-stage with Journey's Neal Schon and new lead singer Arnel Pineda

Sunday night had to be one of the coolest shoots we've ever done... at least for a group of "30-somethings" with fond horribly awkward memories of middle school dances, parachute pants, sleeveless graphic tees, and haircuts that can only be called the "feathered – butt cut – mullet"!

That's right people! We shot the Journey concert!!!

You may wonder why we were there in the first place. They have an amazing story to share! One of the most successful bands in the history of rock & roll found their new lead singer on YouTube!

Yeah, I know right! We had to find out how and why!

And if you think this is just one more old rock & roll band trying to make a lame comeback, I urge you to THINK AGAIN! Journey BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN!!!

And guess what? Apparently Atlanta rocks harder than any other city they've been to! Who knew?

Band members Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory, Deen Castronovo, and new frontman Arnel Pineda (check out Arnel's cinderella journey from the Philippines to lead singer of one of the most iconic rock bands ever!) did not disappoint the fans.

The Journey songs you remember from the radio SOUNDED JUST LIKE the Journey songs you remember from the radio - BUT LIVE!

And while these guys had long since achieved "rock idol status" they are still the most down-to-Earth guys and made us feel comfortable and welcome.

That goes for their production manager Tim, their manager John, and all the "roadies". Y'all rocked too!

They gave us unlimited access backstage, from the dressing room to the catering, and even allowed us to shoot on-stage during the whole show! (That never happens!)

Check out Eric gushing as Jonathan Cain gives him the history of Journey's best ballads and how they came to be PLUS the rest of our "journey" with Journey on the next page!

sound check

in the picture above: Teague and Gerald shooting sound check as Journey's Neal Schon and Arnel Pineda try work out the kinks... THERE WERE NO KINKS!

eric neal and arnel

in the picture above: Eric backstage with Journey's Neal Schon and Arnel Pineda

So after shooting the sound-check, sitting down with the band, there we were, backstage with our "all access" bad-selves, seconds away from watching friggin' Journey take the stage!!!

Seriously, the energy at Chastain Park Amphitheatre (GREAT VENUE!) was incredible! They came out huddled, up off-stage, put their hands together, and with a rowsing yell the band headed out on-stage and got the music going before Arnel's crowd-electrifying entrance!

And in between all the songs I knew and loved and the new songs that are "classic Journey" came all these thoughts about what we were witnessing...

You know what I love most about Journey is the fact that they were there for the birth of the "MTV generation" and while the music industry has changed drastically, music television has no more music, and old bands have tried to reinvent themselves for the times... Journey has remained true to themselves and more importantly, their fans whose own memories live in their songs.

The only thing that's changed about Journey are the tools (Journey on MySpaceJourney in Second Life) they use to continue making the music that made them famous.

And as quickly as our day with Journey started, it finally ended with us on-stage in the wings, as Journey played on... "One night will remind you – How we touched – And went our separate ways..."

Hi guys, You have the coolest job in the world...more power to you. I love your article and I got hooked on your first video that I saw on "You tube". And now I can't get enough of journey...Don't get wrong but Its a good thing. I want to thank you and your crew for getting me "hooked". Peace!

Metalloid   August 5th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

You guys rock...I was hoping you guys heard of the petition for Journey to play the half-time show of the SuperBowl! Maybe if you mention it with your show, it might push thru!

You should listen to their new song titled:
What It Takes To Win which is a perfect song for any sports!

JeffDubya   August 5th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

The first time I saw Journey in concert was an amazing experience and every show since has been even better. This band plays good old rock and roll hits, and they are so musically solid for a live band it is SICK.

Add the amazing story (and voice) that is Arnel Pineda and there's not much you can't love about this band.

It amazes me that the Steve Perry holdouts from 1998 are so enamored with him (don't get me wrong, he was an amazing talent) that they are willing to overlook the current lineup of the band without a second thought. It's just shortsighted. If you want to hear some great rock and roll, buy the album Revelation and go see a live show!

Thanks to News To Me for picking up this ball (for the second time) and running with it. The band needs major media exposure like this now more than ever, and us die hards appreciate it a TON!

Ethaniel25   August 5th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

It's been a month now since I last checked on Journey (from the first time that I got the Journey fever which led me to long hours of surfing & very few hours of sleep for weeks – I've never heard of Journey before Revelation cd). Now, I think I'm back to normal and it's good to see other people picking up on their really amazing comeback story. I admire Journey for what they represent – history, talent & second chances.

Thanks CNN for rediscovering Journey.

Jeanne'   August 5th, 2008 11:01 pm ET

Thanks for getting on the "magic train" for the Journey awakening. Please,Oh please mention them playing, at the Super Bowl Halftime! Looking forward for the CNN concert filming, and interviews. You guys, are just super. Bet you are having a blast!

Reggie   August 6th, 2008 12:01 am ET

you're just as amazing as journey, great job!!

great talents like neal, jon, ross, dean and arnel should be enjoyed by everyone- amazing music.

great people, great band, great news – all for a better world. thank you and more power to all!

Tricia   August 6th, 2008 12:27 am ET

What is amazing about this band is, the songs that they composed, it has all the right ingredients (lyrics & beat).

The song "After All The Years", my uncle will sing that to my aunt on their 50th wedding anniversary (they will renew their marriage vow).

When my niece who is 18 years old came home to their house & showed the Revelation CD to her parents, she was asked, do you like the Journey Band?, her answer was "only a moron will not like this band". Her dad immediately purchased 6-Journey tickets for her & 5 of her friends to see them when they go to CT.

Songwriting is excellent good for any age and that is why I do agree with Metalloid, it should be the half time show in the Super Bowl.
Since you are in the media world, PLEASE relay the message to the Super Bowl management. WE (US FANS) WILL BE VERY VERY GRATEFUL TO YOU. Thank you so much!!

augustfly   August 6th, 2008 1:29 am ET

Thanks so much for doing a follow-up report on Journey. After I heard your first report, I've tried to e-mail other TV stations too, requesting them to take a look of the new Journey PHENOMENON and hopefully the'll feature them too in their stations. Obviously nobody paid attention to my requests. Fast forward... Arnel Pineda is THE BOMB! Neal Schon could have just missed him ,and none of these Journey soldout concerts and slowly boiling excitements, are we (fans) witnessing and feeling right now. Journey is re-born and the new recruit from the Philippines more than fill Steve Perry's shoes. He's the real deal and I can't imagine Journey without him. BTW...I love your job but I think you do it best. You deserve a RAISE!!!

P.S: Would you please also mention in your report that fans are doing a petition for Journey to be the Superbowl Half-time entertainer? It would be BLASSSSSSSSSST!!!!! I can't wait. TY.

CLS   August 6th, 2008 2:51 am ET

I SAW THIS JOURNEY CONCERT AT MANDALAY BAY AT LAS VEGAS,IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY WE(SIX)PAID.WONDERING WHY SO LESS PUBLICITY IN THIS SOLD OUT CONCERT SINCE IT STARTED US TOUR JULY 9,BY WORDS OF MOUTH,YOU TUBE ONLY.SEE AND HEAR,YOU ALL BE ENTERTAINED BEYOND IMAGINATION WITH THIS NEW FRONTMAN,FULL OF ENERGY,HIS VOICE SO POWERFUL,LIKE HIS SINGING THESE SONGS FOR 20 YEARS,AND HE OWNS SEPARATE WAYS ALREADY BY WAY THE CROWD'S REACTION TO THE HIGHEST NOTE.THANK YOU FOR THIS COMING SHOW.

eric ates   August 6th, 2008 7:31 am ET

thanks a lot for the review......I was really amazed with the band's RESSURECTION in the music stream...and JOURNEY indeed have found the missing piece, WITH HEART AND SOUL ...they did click on the first try and OMG people are screaming old and new with the band..ASIA is proud of AP..this means only that RACE does'nt matter in singing...if you got the pipes...you're in...He's an inspiration to all of us...let's end it this way with one of the most used phase nowadays...DON'T STOP BELIEVING!!!!

Ben   August 6th, 2008 7:49 am ET

Just wanted to thank your crew and CNN for doing this story- As popular as Journey is and was, the band needs the world to support the new material on Revelation! I listen to the new tracks multiple times daily (I've been a die hard fan since 1981). I was fortunate enough to see the show in Tampa, Fl on 7/30- all I can say is WOW!! Arnel has rejuvinated this stellar group of musicians beyond belief- all the guys seem to be having a blast on stage (especially Neil Shon). If anyone is reading this and hasn't picked up the new CD Revelation....go to Walmart and but it-NOW (two CD's, and a live DVD for $11.88). Thanks for keeping the Journey train chuggin.

tessa mendoza   August 6th, 2008 8:11 am ET

I'm a new Journey fan bec. of ARNEL' unbelivable, versatile, monstrous powerhouse voice and talent. I've seen a lot of concerts but only a few and I mean a FEW singers/musician who are better in LIVE concert than in their CD or records and Arnel is one of them. How can you not root for a guy whose "Cinderella" story is so inspirational.
Thank you for featuring them this weekend. Our whole family and friends will be watching.
IT'S ABOUT TIME THAT JOURNEY RECEIVE THE ATTENTION THAT THEY SO RICHLY DESERVE !!!!!

ann   August 6th, 2008 8:54 am ET

I saw one of Journey's private gig in Fayetteville, Arkansas. What a fantastic group they are. This NEW guy, ARNEL PINEDA? Are you kidding me? HE'S AWESOME!!! I' ve been a SP fan but honestly Journey won't be rockin' as hard without Pineda now. Not only that he got " THE VOICE" but also it doesn't hurt that he's cute and seem to be a genuinely nice guy as what I've heard and read. His story is for the books and movies too, kind'a like Rocky's. I hope journey get to play the superbowl half-time, they would really rock us off!!!

I would like to congratulate you and your crew for job well done on taking another look of my favorite JOURNEY. I'm sure you had a blast as well, during the concert in Atlanta. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!

Lynda   August 6th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

IVE BEEN SO BLESSED IN MY LIFE TO KNOW THESE GUYS IN THE BAND ON A PERSONAL LEVEL.
BELIVE ME WHEN I SAY WE WILL ALWAYS THINK OF PERRY,AGUIRE WHICH WITH OUT A DOUBT WAS ONE OF THE GOLDEN VOICES GOLDEN HEARTED PEOPLE IVE EVER MEET IN MY LIFE!
BUT WITH OUT A DOUBT WHAT EVER THE REASON MY BE PUT THE PAST IN THE PAST!LIKE DON HENLY SAYS (GET OVER IT)
LIFE IS A JOURNEY FULL OF CHANGE!
AND THANKS BE TO GOD FOR BRINGING ARNEL TO JOURNEY TO KEEP THE JOURNEY GOING!
WORD OF ADVICE ARNEL TAKE GOOD CARE OF THOSE PIPES AND PLEASE DONT BURN THEM OUT!

LYNDA

Lyndsey   August 6th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

I'm an avid journey fan before and closing the door of journey way back after Steve Perry left the band. but after i watched your clips about the discovery of Arnel Pineda and the coverage of CBS morning news....I completely blown away with their new front man. We even drove 4 and a half hrs. just to convince myself if he really the perfect man to replace my idol....Now all I can say is a big WOW! beyond my expectation...KUDOS JOURNEY!!!! I'm looking forward for your "Journey with Journey" show this coming Saturday and Sunday. Thanks a lot!

jr   August 6th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Thank you for featuring Journey my favorite band.

SpeedMetalPie   August 6th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

Dudes! I want your job!

E   August 7th, 2008 12:09 am ET

I listen to the new songs in the car (to and from work). When I get home, I go directly to the computer to read the latest entry in the Journey forum and read it for hours, then go to YouTube to see if there are any new clips and read the comments. When I wake up in the a.m., I check the forum again before going to work and before going to bed at night. Recently, I have been printing the comments before leaving work and I read it while waiting at the stop signs (even hoping that I would be held up by the train passing through so that I can finish reading all the pages). At work, I eat lunch at my desk and check the website for anything new. Sounds crazy, doesn't it?

I had the PLEASURE of seeing Journey in concert in Council Bluffs, Ia. All I can say is...Journey is BACK and they are on FIRE! Arnel is a breath of fresh air and the rest of the band are amazing. You can see the passion they have for their music when they are on stage. It is also so cool to see all ages at the shows singing along, kinda gives you a warm fuzzy....
$150.00 tickets
$50.00 gas
$70.00 for T-shirts cuz you have to have one!
singing with her and the band to "Open Arms".....simply pricelss

i love journey and arnel

mysty john   August 8th, 2008 1:30 am ET

Thank you CNN for giving us this beautiful story about journey and arnel pineda. It inspires me to go on and be best in what I do.

I have never been a computer addict until I met Arnel Pineda in youtube. I can't get enough of him. Something in his voice and in his performance to make me watch and listen to him over and over again.

Now I am trying my best to learn and open a blog so that I can have an outlet of what I am experiencing right now. Arnel and Journey make me go back to my childhood and pick up the pieces I have lost and missed. Lately, I've been doing so many reflections, insights and growing up. Thank you guys, neal, jon, ross, deen, arnel, zoo band, ndgomez and many more for making my summer so wonderful and my life so exciting.

RgeneRa   August 8th, 2008 7:14 am ET

Great job for covering Journey, one more time. If you were not a fan but been to one of their concerts, i'm tellin' you, you just don't become a fan but YOU'RE HOOKED! You tube videos, as high quality are some, doesn't do justice seeing this PINEDA dude sing and perform. Have you seen his jumps in these performances? Man, he's 40 years old at that.! CAn't get it over when he sings that highest "NOOOOOO" in Separate Ways. It's like saying to his detractors ...TAKE THAT!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Attention Superbowl Management: JOURNEY is the PERFECT CHOICE for HALF_TIME SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

diyosaph   August 8th, 2008 7:49 am ET

E,

I read your comments about what you do while driving to work, at work, at hoe when you arrive from work.... you are describing ME and a million others I guess.LOL

Thank you for covering Journey's story once again, you bet I will not miss it for the world!!! When your rating skyrockets this weekend, which I am absolutely sure it will, you 'll know that Journey's new fan base just went from countrywide to worldwide...and maybe.. INTERPLANETARY...because I've came across a site that's called..planet ARNELIANS!!! LOL!
And ..oh yeah!! just a follow up petition on Journey playing, half-time show of the Superbowl? PLEASE?

More power to CNN for doing their job to the fullest, as always!!

Ricky   August 8th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Never been so sick in my entire life till now. Journey/Arnel fever is so contagious and i'm glad to have it. If you could mention the petition for them to sing at the superbowl, that would be insane!!! More power to your show.

Sun Diego   August 8th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

CNN and Eric, Thanks a million for covering Journey. By far, this will just be the 2nd time a widely, good publicity is happening for this great band (with AP as the frontliner) - 1st time thru CBS Sunday News; wonder why very little media attention is being given to them given the MAGNITUDE that this band is doing right now with their sold-out concerts, and huge fans (old and new), here and abroad; aside from the fact that Pineda truly is such a great vocalist in the truest sense! i really think it's all "political"... Had the frontman been "other than Asian", I BET the band or Pineda would have been featured already, or right away in the Rolling Stone's mag, done interviews (talk shows), etc. Still, very thankful to all the open-minded fans who appreciate good music, great talents irregardless. MUSIC is universal, it knows no boundary. GO JOURNEY!!! Kudos to CNN !!!

dali   August 8th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

Wow, this is really exciting! my folks back home in the pacific i.e. Manila, Hawaii and friends from HK the ME shall be rockin' .
Sure they'll all be thrilled to watch this segment of yours of Journey with our own AP

dali and family

jhayceeh   August 8th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

I'm glad to know that CNN is again making another story about the JOURNEY BAND with ARNEL.

The rebirth of JOURNEY, the band is such an amazing story. It's so fascinating & touching to hear & read ARNEL's true-to-life Cinderella story. The powerful voice of ARNEL with his energetic performance in addition to the legendary talents of the rest of the band make this current lineup very exciting & fun to watch live. You can also sense the closeness of band members & the respect for one another.

Their new album, REVELATION is an outstanding piece of music. Thank you JOURNEY for your wonderful music.

Thank you CNN for more coverage of this band. CNN is global & fans of JOURNEY are now more global than ever.

Raid   August 8th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

Why is everyone calling this a "comeback"?

Journey has been tearing up the road this entire decade. They haven't gone anywhere to comeback from. Arenl being the third singer to front the band over an eight year period, and doing a hell of a job I might add.

I admit, I was very sceptical of Arnel at first, but wow, he is by far the best frontman they have had in the Perry-less era of the band. He has great stage presence. Something Steve Augeri(the first Perry clone) truely lacked. Not no knock Augeri, as he was one hell of a singer, but he just didn't have the "frontman mentality", and I do appreciate everything he did for the band.

Anyhow, I can't wait to see the speacial. I couldn't find it on my guid to set the DVR, so i'll just have to make sure i'm in front of the TV during airtime.

E   August 8th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

CNN, watch your ratings hit the roof!

E   August 8th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Calling on everybody to watch Journey on CNN this Saturday 8/9/08 – tell your parents, brothers, sisters, friends, enemies, your whole neighborhood, pets or what have you! Turn off your cell phones, house phones so no one will bother you. TiVO the show.

UkiTNayo   August 9th, 2008 8:29 am ET

Great to see some coverage on my favorite band JOURNEY. Arnel is what breathes life into JOURNEY's bloodstream. Without Arnel, the band would be playing in fairgrounds or in small venues being a nostalgic act, instead of soldout concerts that he and the band brings today.

Hope you get to mention what others are trying to petition for, SUPERBOWL Halftime Performance, now that would be great. Just wait and see your ratings skyrocket like a mother! Thank you Eric and CNN!

Wasabi   August 9th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Yesterday i consulted my doctor..we shaked hands and he asked me what are your complains ?

Me:Well doctor i have a severe case of Journeylitis with a You Tube syndrome.
Doctor: Okay i will prescribe a treatment with a Perryceline !
Me:No no Doctor that`s an old recipe wouldn`t work on me anymore don`t you have something new to cure me .

Doctor: Well we have a new energetic cure for your illness it`s called
Arnelbiotica but i warn you it has side effects like jumping in the air and taking off your shirts infront of women.

dali's dad   August 9th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

My daughter got the piece of say earlier I'm just tailgating her now.
I have earlier wrote a letter to HBO requesting a possibility of a live coverage but it just fell on deaf ears. They thought it was not well worth considering my letter.

I believe there's a strong clamor of probably millions of fans of Journey particularly from the Pacific rim e.g. Japan, Okinawa, Guam, HK, China, Singapore, the ME that comprise the countries of Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Bahrain UAE,Indonesia, Malaysia , Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and of course the Philippines home to AP who are content on just watching the latest feedback from Journey's & AP's fan website. Now they can witness for themselves the latest on primetime from the mega network...........CNN themselves !!!. Who cares for HBO anyway...

I'm HOOKED , whay else can I say? I live in California but found out that the ticket prices in LA, especially at the Greek Theater are outrageous. I'm planning to fly to Toronto for the 9/5 concert and use my World Perks miles and purchase a VIP ticket instead.
E and diyosaph – I'm with you...I've never been so crazy in love with a band or any artist in particular, but this Arnel fever is driving me nuts!!!!
GO JOURNEY!!!!!

Rick   August 9th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Yo Erick! Wow, saw your piece with "Journey" in the CNN Headlines News tonight – "News To Me". That Arnel dude can really do justice with Journey's songs. Very interesting. I'm gonna get me a copy of that album. Good job in covering the gigs. You're one lucky guy having that cool job. Peace!

Jennifer Sastre   August 10th, 2008 12:59 am ET

I just saw Journey in Houston a few weeks ago at the Woodlands and just think that Arnel was WONDERFUL and what a great choice the band has made by making him their new lead singer. He has got so much energy and sings with passion and grace. He breathes new life into Journey! And the songs are all still great! THEY TOTALLY ROCKED THE HOUSE!

As much as we all loved Steve Perry, I gotta had it to Arnel..... He has got it going on!

Double Kudos to Journey..... Love the new song too, btw!

CoolBlue from Canada   August 10th, 2008 2:11 am ET

I'm 54 years old and I've been a Journey fans way back in the 80"s. I thought to myself, this new lead singer Arnel has a big shoes to fill because of SP. But the moment I bought the CD and heard his voice, I was blown away, not only did he nailed all the Journey classic songs, he took it to the next level. Arnel has filled the shoes alright and perfectly too. I watched some of Journey interviews on you tube and Arnel seems a very nice person & humble. I hope he remains that way. Arnel always keep your feet on the ground. Way to go Journey! (Neil,Ross, Jon & Deen, Arnel) I hope someday you'll have a concert here in Calgary.
God Bless. from Alberta, Canada.

OnMyJOurney   August 10th, 2008 2:36 am ET

"Then", now, and always, Journey is THE band. It's America, and all it represents:fast-paced, positive, and open for opportunity. Thank you for this article. It's more than just 'nice' for us die-hards to see this from the 'general public'. These men have earned every note and every second of air time, and 100 x more. I hope the writer/interviewer truly understood where he was: rock & roll heaven. Some of us would give our left (arm) to be in his shoes! As I sit here, listening to Rev for the umpteenth time, participating on the Journey Forum constantly, my heart is warmed with the hope that this rebirth is genuine, and thrice what it was 30 years ago!

Journey On y'all!

Michael & Fe   August 10th, 2008 3:23 am ET

Hi Eric,

When you covered and showed Journey's & Arnel Pineda's phenomenal story in the CNN Headline News – "News To Me"; I know you may not be aware that a huge millions of people in Asia, and the millions of Asian expatriates and citizens of Europe, Australia, the Middle East (there are millions Asian expatriates in GCC Countries alone), the Pacific Rim Islands, the North and South Americas and the rest of the world are dying to get this story told for the world to hear and see.

This is not well covered (yet) in the media but you now have the "friendship" and the "sincerest gratitude" of the multitudes of people around the world. When the band "NXIS" made their reality TV show in their quest for their lead singer; I think it was a hit here; but that show could have been dwarfed a thousand times over (considering a worldwide avid audience & fans) had Journey's quest that lead them to Arnel Pineda was made into a TV show.

Eric, if I were you; I will team up with your CNN Producer or CNN Senior Executive and try hard (and fast) to get the book & movie rights for Journey & Arnel Pineda's story and you will have a "worldwide blockbuster".

"More power to you and your show and more power to CNN!". Also, a good advice; for a surefire worldwide increase in CNN RATING, please tell your Producer (or your CNN Executive) to have some future updates/segments on Journey & Arnel Pineda from time to time and use their influence to have Journey perform at halftime in the next "Superbowl".

Sincerely,

Michael & Fe

...watched it last night, while friends were over for a birthday party. They can't believe JOURNEY has a new singer and "THAT GOOD"!. The're going to buy the new album now. THANKS ERIC & CNN, GREAT STORY AND GREAT REPORT. LUV YOUR SHOW!

I have been a Journey fan for well over 25 years. I am such a fan that I have a Journey tattoo, and I am getting another one. I have attended Journey fan conventions (yes we have them) and I was at the Walk of Fame ceremony in Hollywood when they received their star. I have seen Journey with Perry, Augeri (who I do miss as Journey's lead singer), Jeff Scott Soto, and now Arnel Pineda. Arnel is a fantatstic talent and should not be missed. A Journey concert is a fantastic time, Arnel has rejuvenated the other guys in the band with an energy that I have not seen for a while.

Perry was a great frontman for Journey, so was Augeri, and Jeff Scott Soto was awesome as well. This album/tour is just the beginning for them.

I would also be ecstatic for my favorite band to play the halftime show of the Super Bowl.

For those of you who remember Journey from your high school days, don't miss seeing them on tour. And Wal-Mart has "Revelation" on sale exclusively. So get your copy there.

Thank you for feauring journey. I've been a journey fan for a long time. But this time its much much more intense. I just love their new cd REVELATIONS . I love their old songs, but each and every new songs they have in the album is just fantastic.
I totally agree and hope JOURNEY can perform in the Superbowl it will be awesome.

Journey's Revelation CD is not available yet in the middle east so when my family took a vacation in France last July, one of my to do list was to head to a music store. Got my CD (yaaayyyyy!) at Gallerie Lafayette in Paris!!!Never left my car's CD player ever since. Guess i'm now hooked up with Journey just like everyone else.

vicki   August 10th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

AP   August 10th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Steve Perry may be missed but if anyone has taken the time to read what he's had to say, he's been out of the band for ten years now and is on his own. Remember, this was Neal Schon's band from the beginning, and Steve Perry wasn't on board until their FOURTH album. They were a band before him and continue to be a band after his departure. Look at them as a sound and not just a band and you'll see why Arnel Pineda is their man now...Steve Perry will never be forgotten but he's not been a part of this band for a decade now. Let's move forward into the future and wish Journey the best. Revelation is an awesome new album and is right up there with some of their very best work. All they ask is that you listen...come to the shows and hear for yourself!

maeve   August 10th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Thanks for featuring my favorite band. My family enjoyed watching it. More Journey features to come, please.

razle   August 10th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Mai Boehrer   August 10th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Just one more comment/suggestion from me and I promise to hush for today. Eric Lanford, I have an idea for you to consider. Let's say we put you and your program along with JOURNEY in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most signature petition for JOURNEY to perform at the Superball Halftime. Journey has 33 concerts left, perhaps the fans going in each concerts can start the signature petition. I hope you think about it.

Thank You,

E   August 10th, 2008 5:21 pm ET

People should not form their opinion about Journey with the new frontman, until they go to one of their live concerts. See for yourself what many others are going crazy over.

john   August 10th, 2008 11:57 pm ET

i just hope journey will have their concert in a close stadium like here in fort lauderdale bank atlantic. they got the new voice they should not be having too much concert, they should do it big dome so that they can have 50k + audience.

marivic   August 11th, 2008 10:30 am ET

I agree with a lot of people saying that this new Journey is addicting. We are going to watch their concert the second time in Sacramento. We are glued in front of our computer everyday just watching their video over and over again, it is crazy.I am forty years old and this new Journey makes me feel excited and alive again and I am also speaking on behalf of my husband. It is time to bring real music back in the hearts of our young generation again. We hope to see more of them on TV.

perla   August 11th, 2008 11:36 am ET

just as I have thought. I missed the CNN's show that being shown on a special cable and not the regular CNN Program we have in Europe.
How can I see it in you tube? will somebody download that program so that journey's fans in Europe can also see it? thanks.

dcnic   August 11th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

R. MD   August 13th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Hi Eric!

Good show about the "Journey" band. For a little over five minutes of coverage it was very inspiring and great story. Infact, I recorded the whole show and showed it to my friends and they got hooked. I wish you will cover more and follow the success of this band. God bless and you're not really funny and entertaining in your show but you do care of what about the people in the show. Thanks man!

PS, kudos to the person who introduce the idea of "Journey" in the Superbowl Half time show. A lot of people missed the concert because most of the venue are sold-out.

Hear Arnel sing acapella YT: Arnel Pineda sings "Pain in my heart" on Sharon

Bernie Avila, RN   August 17th, 2008 9:35 am ET

Hi Eric,
Thanks for covering this rejuvenated band. I loved them in the 80's, 90's and I guess now for eternity. I have tried contacting most radio stations in the Chicagoland area, I must have sounded like a fool because all the DJs @ Q101.1 did was belt out Don't Stop Believing and laughed and never played the songs I requested. I'm dying to hear the new Journey songs in the airwaves in Chicago but no one has paid any attention. They don't realize the market that they are missing. Hopefully your experience with megahits on the net would catch some MAJOR CHICAGO NETWORKS' attention and run with it for BIGGER BUSINESS, but oh no, they seem to be asleep. If I was their GENERAL MANAGER, I WOULD HAVE FIRED THEM ALREADY BECAUSE THEY ARE MISSING OUT ON AN OPPORTUNITY. They think that their marketS ARE on Li'l Wayne, Kanye West and Coldplay. They don't understand that serious bucks are on Journey fans, most of us are good earners, make lots of money, can afford 2 SKYBOXES FULL @ TINLEY PARK THIS COMING SEPTEMBER. AND YET, THEY'RE STUCK ON DOING BUSINESS WITH THE YOUNGER GENERATION WHO GENERALLY DON'T HAVE THE BIG BUCKS TO SHELL OUT AND MAKE CONCERTS SELL OUT ALL OVER EUROPE AND THE GOOD OLD USA. Melissa Forman of WLIT 93.4 FM listened but only briefly, they played the old JOURNEY songs with STEVE PERRY. Please play some JOURNEY WITH ARNEL PINEDA SONGS FOR US.
HOPEFULLY THIS BLOG WOULD BRINGS SOME SERIOUS RESPONSE FROM THE RADIO STATIONS NOT ONLY IN CHICAGOLAND. 34 VIP TICKETS @ TINLEY PARK SHOULD TELL YOU, JOURNEY FANS MEAN BUSINESS (AND THAT FOLKS IS JUST FROM ONE HYPED UP FAN LIKE ME).
A PSYCH NURSE GONE PSYCHO!

JOURNEY ROCKS, NOW CNN ROCKS TOO!

aries   August 17th, 2008 9:33 pm ET

i was in chattanooga, tn that sat night and was at a party. the show was on my mind, of course, so i requested the host to tune in at 9:30 to cnn hn everyone also run to the living room to watch and it was the only time i guees that the noise inside the house died down. we just watched and listened. thanks for featuring this great band.

Dave   August 17th, 2008 11:44 pm ET

Guys, There is actually a petition for Journey to perform at halftime during the upcoming Superbowl. The bummer is, I heard a rumor that Bruce Springsteen has already been announced. Could you clarify this for all of us JOURNEY fans. Bottomline is this, With Journey's resurrection iI believe it would be in the NFLs interest to go global with all of the new Journey fans. (both old and new).

Harmony   August 18th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Thanks Eric and CNN for featuring Journey. Here in Canada we don't have any news coverage on journey :< Not as much publicity and or airplay on the radio too.

I heard you were doing a behind the scenes coverage through the journeymusic forum and youtube but i missed it. good thing it was uploaded on youtube. thanks for the upload.

In the Olympics in Beijing they are playing Journey songs. I heard it during the diving competition and gymnastics. They played Be good to yourself.

Johnny   March 16th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Did anyone happen to notice the group of people dressed up at the Journey concert in 80s gear, mullets, denim cut offs and...oh, they were also on the episode, "Journey with Journey" filmed at the Chastain Park in Atlanta, GA?
