Our summer intern's notes from "the nook."

Hello to all of the "NTM" fans! My name is Mandy and I am the summer intern for the hit show on CNN Headline News, “News To Me.” This is my first blog post ever people so bear with me!! I am writing this so that I can introduce myself to all of you and maybe give you some insight to what interning is like! I am a rising junior at UGA and I am majoring in Broadcast Journalism. I have been on the infamous interning path for almost four weeks now! Yes people, I am dressed to kill (professionally of course) with my notepad in hand. Ready to unlock and infiltrate the news world, and get what every intern hopes for... that one foot in the door to prepare for nightly news domination!

I am one girl out of six guys working on this show and if you saw Eric’s recent post where he answered your questions about how many people work on the show and why he is bald, yes I am that crucial little ½ of where the magic happens! When I am not logging interviews, carrying equipment on shoots, or trying my best to find content for the show here in my little nook at CNN (that's me in my luxurious "nook" in the picture above) I am joining the guys at what they call “the creek” aka: the production house (can you tell that I am trying to pick up the cool work lingo so that I can try to fit in a little bit more). That's where all the exciting behind the scenes editing goes on. When I’m there I hear the sweet sounds of Eric Lanford “singing” the renowned hit song “Mandy” by Barry Manilow so he can remember my name... or maybe he just loves Barry Manilow!

As an intern I think that everyone has to have at least one absolutely mortifying moment their first day on the job. Mine was when we were supposed to go a meeting and some of the guys left early to eat lunch. They specifically told me just to follow (coordinating producer) Mike to the meeting. So, when I saw him leave his office… well I jumped the gun and… I followed my boss to the men’s restroom, humiliating I know. OK! Story time is over!

What’s the best part about interning for this show you ask? The best part would have to be going to shoots with the team because I am able to see and be a part of what exactly goes in to making the episode that you see on air. We have been shooting our interviews in our “outdoor studio” lately which you will be able to get your first glimpse of during this weekend’s show.
